E-Cigarette companies fined for false claims

The Federal Court of Australia has imposed a world-first fine on e-cigarette manufacturers Joystick, Social-Lites and Elusion for illegally claiming that their products do not contain any harmful carcinogens. It was found that e-cigarettes made by these companies contain the same chemicals and carcinogens found in ordinary cigarettes.

Consequently, the companies have been fined $40,000-$50,000, with the CEOs receiving an additional independent penalty of $10,000-$15,000.

The Federal Court urges businesses to provide accurate and truthful information about the contents of their products, especially if substances that can be harmful to human health are present.
