Alarming rise of STI rates in Indigenous communities

Recent data on sexually transmitted infections reveals a shocking disparity between indigenous people and the national average.

Proclaimed to be a “national shame” by James Ward at the South Australian Health and Medical Research institute, the sexual health of those in remote communities will be targeted by a government program focusing on syphilis elimination, HIV prevention and health education. The plan is now under consideration but Liberal senator Dean Smith believes that it will be approved.
